Job Description

The Experienced Manager is responsible for managing a diverse set of client accounting, auditing and/or advisory service engagements. Working under the direction of the Firm’s Managing Director, the Experienced Manger will direct and coordinate the daily activities of the Firm’s professional staff designed to meet client expectations, comply with Firm and industry standards, staff development, and ensure adherence to budget guidelines for each assignment. A successful candidate should be a highly motivated self-starter with supervisory, review, and management experience.


  • Oversees and manage daily professional staff activities required to meet and exceed client expectations, and specific scopes of engagement.
  • Supervises, directs, and review the work of the professional staff, including, but not limited to, project and audit planning, and staff evaluations.
  • Individual responsibilities include resolving or assisting other Firm personnel in resolving complex accounting and financial reporting issues, as well as drafting engagement letters, budget determinations, staffing supervision, working paper reviews, report drafting and issuance, and billing for services, etc.
  • Presents and explains recommendations to improve client accounting processes and control procedures.
  • The candidate is also responsible for assisting in Firm development and staff recruiting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
  • Experience with governmental/non-profit accounting principles and control procedures.
  • Ability to develop, establish and advise financial policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently, with little supervision.
  • Ability to effectively direct and supervise.
  • Knowledge of operating and capital budget concepts.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and to prepare accurate reports in a timely fashion.
  • Knowledge of policies and practices associated with payroll and benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of personnel policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and ability in the use of a personal computer and software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with Clients and other Firm professionals and employees.
  • Ability to be bonded.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in accounting.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in the area of financial statement auditing, financial management consulting or the equivalent.
  • Michigan School District accounting experience.
  • Certified Public Account (CPA) designation is a must.
